The International Monetary Fund announced that Mohammed Al-Jadaan, Saudi Arabia’s minister of finance, will continue as chair of its International Monetary and Financial Committee until January 2028.
According to the IMF, the one-year extension follows the completion of his original three-year term and comes after he accepted the committee members’ request to prolong his chairmanship.
About the IMFC
The IMF describes the IMFC as its principal ministerial advisory body, tasked with providing strategic guidance on the fund’s priorities and deliberating on key issues affecting the international monetary and financial system.
The IMF says the committee represents the IMF’s 191 member countries through 25 members, who are finance ministers and central bank governors.
Extension Approval
The IMF said the extension was agreed unanimously by the committee members, with the backing of IMF management.
Recognition of Saudi Arabia’s Role
The IMF said the decision recognises Saudi Arabia’s successful chairmanship in fostering international consensus on economic and financial matters amid economic challenges and heightened uncertainty.
The IMF also notes appreciation of the Kingdom’s initiatives and its steadfast commitment to promoting dialogue and strengthening multilateral cooperation.
