Anti-dumping duties imposed
According to the Ministry of Commerce and the General Authority of Foreign Trade, Saudi Arabia has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties ranging from 15.8 percent to 38.7 percent on imports of aluminium easy‑open caps for beverage cans that originate in China.
Details of the measures
The duties, which will remain in place for five years, took effect on Tuesday, 13 October. The decision was issued by Dr. Majid Al‑Qasabi, Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Foreign Trade, and covers caps with diameters between 50 and 63 millimetres.
The decision and its accompanying announcement were published in the Umm Al‑Qura Gazette on 12 October.
Legal basis and implementation
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority will be responsible for implementing and collecting the duties on the covered imports. The rates were set according to the final findings of an investigation conducted by the authority into the product concerned.
The investigation was launched on 30 September 2025 after a complaint from the local industry and concluded that definitive measures were warranted under the International Trade Remedies Law and its implementing regulations.
Objectives
The authority said the measures form part of its mandate to protect local producers from the adverse effects of dumping and other unfair trade practices. They aim to strengthen the competitiveness of national sectors, contribute to the development of the Saudi economy and enhance the Kingdom’s gains in international trade.
